Printed below is a flyer from the Conference for the “How To Reach New People Workshop.” I need you to prayerfully consider that information because your church needs three persons to commit to this workshop and the information and processes taught there. I will be attending, and it is my desire that each church, Newton Falls and Pricetown will both join me in having three committed members who, having prayed for God's guidance will commit to this program with me for each church.
The cost is nominal, at $100 per team, and the coaching fee may or may not be applied. Please pray about this, because I am sure that we (both churches) will benefit from, and need to make use of this training and resource provided by the Conference for our health and for the benefit of the ones we will be able to reach out to with this training.
Thank you, and please call me as soon as you decide to do this so we can get registered. It is coming up very soon.

Our Mission: To Continue the Work of Jesus Peacefully, Simply, Together.
The Pastor’s Pen
Luke 7:20-22 20 When the men came to Jesus, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to you to ask, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?’” 21 At that very time Jesus cured many who had diseases, sicknesses and evil spirits, and gave sight to many who were blind. 22 So he replied to the messengers, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy[a] are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.
This was part of my devotional reading this morning, Sept. 25th, and it stuck with me because I saw something in it I never did, in 59-odd years, so I though it worthy to share with you.
Read that passage again, please, for what to me became the most important four words in the passage. Go ahead, I will wait for you…………………………………………………………………………
John's disciples come to Jesus to ask a very specific question from John, who is now in prison for offending Herod. They come to ask, “Are You the One?” By this, of course, John is asking, are You the One that God promised, the One on Whom we have pinned our hopes, the One that I was sent to prepare the way for? Remember the prophecy of the angel when he came to Zechariah and promised him and Elizabeth a child, and he would prepare the way for Messiah? Now John wants to make sure that he has been doing the right thing, as he knows or at least suspects that his time is limited.
Now comes what caught me by surprise. Verse 21, “At that very time...” Do you get it, do you see it? In order to answer John's question, to allay his fears and doubts, Jesus begins to move into the crowd and heal their diseases, cure their blindness, lameness, leprosy, demon possession and all that was wrong with any who were there.
“At that very time...” Jesus prepares the answer for his cousin, in a way that is indisputable and impossible to ignore. Then He tells John's disciples, “The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy[a] are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.” There is your answer for John. Go tell him what you have seen with your own eyes, that he may believe and rest easy. The Messiah is here.
Imagine those disciples' state of mind, as they returned to John. Imagine that discussion on the road as they walked back to report to John. “Did you see that …. Were you watching when Jesus…. I have never seen anything like this in my life. Could Jesus be anything other than Messiah, the Promised One?”
I imagine that those disciples began to live their lives differently in response to the answer that Jesus prepared for them and sent them back with. I would have, I am pretty sure. I have seen a couple of miracles in my life. Big ones. World-view-changing miracles, the kind that messes with what you believe and how you live. Not a lot, but enough. And that changed me. Opened my eyes, taught me a deeper faith, increased my ability to trust, because I cannot deny what I experienced.
How about you? Has God spoken into your life with a miracle or two, whether yours or a loved one’s or a friend’s?
Did you allow it to change you, for always, or have you now been able to rationalize it, or justify it or explain it away. I hope not. Miracles are real, and they are given because of God's compassion on the one in need. A side-effect of these “attesting miracles” is that they do touch our lives, our thoughts, our reason, and most importantly our faith. For the better if we let them.
May the signs and wonders of life be allowed to linger in your life, to have the effect that they can, of building our faith, increasing our ability to trust, the depth of our walk with Jesus as we travel this road as His disciples.
In His service and yours,

Care and Compassion Ministry
Matthew 25:39-40
When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you? The King will reply, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
We continue our ministry to help people feel the love of Christ and Newton Falls United Methodist Church! The volunteers in this new ministry will:
FIVE volunteers have trained in how to serve the Communion elements, been provided with resources to aid their ministry, and will meet occasionally for prayer and support of each other in this vital part of the ministry. We would like to see more helpers!
We would love more people to become members of this team and visit those in need once a month. This would involve a time commitment of only an hour or two a month. Please pray about becoming part of this ministry to see if this is something you are led to do. Please also give us the names and contact information for anyone who may be blessed by this ministry.
"It is not enough to be compassionate. You must act."

If you know that the members of this committee will be visiting a friend of yours, you are welcome to go with them when they go, without committing to the program completely.

When available, I will include a recent newsletter from David and Keda Clady, the missionaries who were here January 2015 and shared with us their calling to Rome. Our Administrative Council voted to collect a love offering the 1st Sunday of each month to help with their mission. You may give through NFUMC at any time, but please note “Clady mission” on the memo line on your offering envelope or check. Although the Cladys moved back to the USA in August, their mission continues, and we will continue to contribute. Pastor Tom

Kathy has enough silk flowers for each season. If you’d rather donate directly to the church, and not have any live flowers to order or keep, you can give directly to the church; we will continue to list altar flowers “in honor of” or “in memory of” and give you the credit. Still sign up and donate a special amount, but please notify Kathy to get the silk ones ready.

Good Samaritan Fund
The church receives requests for EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE from families in our community. In order to have an emergency fund available, PLEASE SAVE YOUR CRUSHED ALUMINUM CANS and drop them off at the church during regular hours. All proceeds from the sale of aluminum will be dedicated to our Good Samaritan fund. Thank you for contributing.
NOISY OFFERING
October 18
Every 3rd Sunday of the month, the children will be collecting our “noisy offering,” which is any change you happen to have in your pocket (or saved during the week).
The change will then be given to the Newton Falls Ministerial Association to be donated to the Church Mouse for vouchers for lodging, food, and gas for people less fortunate than ourselves. Thank you.

Members! Can you help us? Our volunteer staff of “parishioner-janitors” continues to work hard “behind the scenes” and could use some relief. Could any of you out there allow them to have a day off now and then by volunteering to do their area? Please call Nancy during office hours to see your options. Many hands make light work. J
Shoppers! Just a reminder to add socks to your shopping list for kids in need. We will add these to our mitten and hat tree at Christmas.
UNITED METHODIST youTH GROUP
Our young people will meet for faith and fellowship for an overnight camp experience October 2-3.
Movie night hosted by youth group on Saturday, October 10. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for friendship and concessions.
We hope to go back to Wade Park October 18, because last year was so fulfilling. We hope to prepare something to honor our Veterans for Veterans Day service.
We are asking you to please consider giving a CAKE for the October 29 Halloween Cake Walk, in the name of NF United Methodist Church Youth Group. Each club that donates cakes gets a portion of the ticket sales based upon how many cakes are donated. (Kiwanis Club adds the ticket sales, subtracts expenses, then divides by the number of cakes donated to determine a dollar “value” per cake. Multiply that $ value by # of cakes donated, and Kiwanis sends a check to the group.) Drop off cakes at Covered Bridge Inn Restaurant’s banquet hall, 16 W. Broad St., between Gibson Jewelers and The Flower Shoppe on October 29 beginning at 8 a.m. (all day). The cake walk begins as soon as trick-or-treat is over, about 7 p.m.
Looking ahead: Teens will be ushers, liturgists, and greeters for November. We plan for a
Pot Luck Lunch on November 22, with a pie and cake auction. Get your baking supplies ready!
Don’t forget to “like” our Facebook page at Newton Falls United Methodist Church Youth Group.

- visit shut-ins, nursing homes and hospital patients
- take Communion to those desiring to receive it
- make phone calls to those preferring a call rather than a visit.
Dalai Lama, Ocean of Wisdom; Guidelines for Living, 1989
If you know that the members of this committee will be visiting a friend of yours, you are welcome to go with them when they go, without committing to the program completely.
